W.H Auden once said, ‘There’s more than meets the eye’.The Little Moments echoes this sentiment by exploring the wonders that lie beneath the seemingly ordinary.

At the heart of my project is the promotion of gratitude and emotional endurance to combat over-consumption in the fast fashion world. As consumers, we constantly seek new clothing as we value self-presentation over sustainability. The Little Moments aims to separate our association of beauty with newness, acknowledging that beauty can be found even in the existing.

Familiar everyday snapshots are embellished with tactile surprises, some clear, others subtle. Running one’s hand along each ‘moment’ leads to the discovery of unexpected textures and beauty. Grass and leaves bring olfactory notes, and all at once, the world we have always inhabited comes alive. The tree, once mundane, becomes exquisite. The unassuming leaves become treasures to behold. And the shirt that we deemed too old and broken becomes beautiful.

The cotton fabric and threads are a tribute to nature. The time-intensive embroidering, stitching and knitting gives value to these overlooked daily experiences. With water-soluble stabiliser, these moments are transformed from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, from ordinary to extraordinary.

Perhaps, they are not so ‘little’ after all.
